How about letting the delegates run the conference?

Posted Friday, 22 October 2010, 1.40pm

This sounds radical but read on. Some conferences consist of prepared speeches, short Q&A sessions and a jovial bar session in the evening. That format can serve a purpose when there are some key messages to get across. But what about when you want some real involvement from the floor or maybe one of the speeches inspires some passionate debate. How can that be passion be transmitted to the stage?

The answer, which we used most recently with a large insurance firm, is our 'Messenger' system. This allows real time anonymous input from delegates with a full sized keyboard enabling them to ask questions as a speaker is talking. These can be fed to the speaker and if a point needs clarification it can happen there and then. The system can also be used for voting. This gives a speaker a great chance to check uderstanding. Finally, as we did with the insurance company the delegates were even allowed to select the presentations they wanted to hear.

The result is a well managed conference that imparts all the key messages and ensures that as the delegates are thoroughly involved they will retain more of those messages.
