The youth of today
By Abbie Stewart, 29 March 2016 –
Watching young minds open to accept and appreciate new ideas, new ways of thinking and ultimately new skills, is a joy. When you are part of the team helping those minds to grow it’s even more satisfying.
The National Citizens Scheme (NCS) is open to all 16 and 17 year olds in England and helps them to build their skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends. One of their challenges on the scheme is to work with their new colleagues to design and deliver a social action scheme which, when they’re doing their NCS with Warrington Youth Club, involves pitching their idea to a Dragon’s Den style board from the youth club.
For the last few years the Challenge Factor team have been supporting the young people by giving them some insights into how best to present their ideas to the board… and how they might use those new found skills throughout their lives.
The team deliver a specially designed version of the presentation skills courses they run for Boards, Executive Management Teams and senior managers to the NCS teams … and delight every time in the way the young people blossom and grow as they understand that the thing that was frightening them the most - making a presentation - is a thing that they can actually be really good at.
We’re delighted to be part of the Warrington Youth Club team responsible for opening the minds of the NCS graduates to what they can become, if they just give themselves a chance to grow.
